230 Fifth Lounge and Rooftop Garden (2 hrs)

230 Fifth is New York's largest outdoor Rooftop Garden and fully enclosed Penthouse Lounge with breathtaking views of the NYC skyline. The lounge is at the 20th floor and the Rooftop Garden at 21st.

The place is open everyday from 4pm to 4 am. On Saturday and Sunday they have a brunch buffet from 10 am to 4 pm, including a glass of Champagne or a Mimosa. It is located at, surprisingly, 230 5th Avenue.

Hell's Kitchen Flea Market (1-2 hrs)

Named one of the Top Ten Shopping Streets in the World by National Geographic, Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market sets the standard for distinctive vendors, where the fashion éclat, collectors and top-notch hagglers still delight at fine old things, memorabilia, original art & antique.

The flea market can be found at 39th street between 10th and 11th Avenue. The market is open every all year on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. It will only close for severe rain and snow.

Singing Waiters (2-3 hrs)

Broadway is famous for its theatres of course. But if you don’t have tickets or have limited time, there’s another option. Ellen’s Stardust Diner is a wonderful place where you can eat while the waiters sing a nice song for you.

The restaurant is a retro 1950s theme diner, filled with nostalgic memorabilia. This unique diner features singing ‘waitstaff’ and variety shows. Sit back and relax, as you will be taken back in time to a never forgotten era while you enjoy the best in classic American cuisine.

Ellen’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday to Thursday from 7 am to 12 am. Friday and Saturday from 7 am to 1 am and on Sunday from 7 am to 11 pm. Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club (2 hrs)

Who said Manhattan has no beach? Lounge on the sand at waterfront Beekman Beach Club with spectacular Brooklyn Bridge views or gather in the lush beer garden at rustic tables and benches made of weathered, reclaimed wood. Relax or play billiards, foosball, life size chess, ping-pong.

The Beekman Beer Garden is located at Beekman Street and South Street on the north side of Pier 17. They are open at noon everyday (weather permitting) until 3 am.

Cheap Broadway Tickets

A visit to a Broadway Theatre show is an absolute must. But tickets can be very pricy. At Times Square is a ticket box that sells discounted tickets. But often there’s a long queue. And this office sells day-of-performance tickets only. There’s another Ticket booth at South Street Seaport, which sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinee tickets the day before.

But if you like it easy, you should buy your discounted tickets online at Broadway Box. Here you can buy exactly the same tickets, but you don’t need to queue. And you can buy them weeks in advance and your discount can go up to 60 percent.

Flower district (1 hr)

Looking for nice flowers or just a colourful street in New York? Go to the Flower District in Chelsea at 28th street between 6 and 7th avenue. There you will find many shops selling flowers, indoor and outdoor plants and a lot of floral accessories.

Plants, branches, vases and garden accoutrements crowd the sidewalks in this street, and usually cost less than what florists and other vendors charge.

Chinatown (2-3 hrs)

Manhattan has many nice neighbourhoods. One not to miss for shopping and for sure for dining is Chinatown. This area, home to the largest enclave of Chinese people in the Western hemisphere, is bordering the Lower East Side to its east and Little Italy to its north.

The Chinatown restaurant scene is large and vibrant, with more than 200 Chinese restaurants. Just walk around, especially in the small streets and you’ll find yourself a restaurant where you can get a great and affordable lunch or dinner. Most restaurants are open until late night. Meatpacking District (1 evening)

The Meatpacking District owes its name to the meat distribution companies that once dominated the area. Nowadays the area is a trendy neighbourhood with many great restaurants, art galleries, high-end furniture stores and fabulously expensive hairdressers. But the area is dominated by late-night establishments so if you’re looking for a place to hang out for the night, this is the right area.

It’s the area south of West 14th Street between Hudson River east and Hudson Street. The south border is roughly Gansevoort Street.

Soho (1-2 hrs)

If you’re looking for a beautiful area to do your high-end shopping, go to Soho. You will find a wide variety of stores and shops ranging from trendy boutiques to outlets of upscale national and international chain stores.

The Soho area is located between Houston and Canal Street, and east-west between Broadway and West Broadway. Find all about the shops at this website.
